Orchid #3

Hello!  I wanted to write a quick post today and share Orchid #3.

I promise this is the last orchid I'll be sharing for a while.  I almost didn't share this one because I drew this from a photo that was micro focused on the top petals, which left the lower petals unfocused.  That was a challenge to me, and I don't think I pulled it off very well.

I still haven't found a Silverpoint Drawing Challenge List online, so I guess I will have to make one for myself.  More later!

Until next time...

Orchid #2

Happy New Year!

I have been drawing orchids lately, and this is the second one I'm sharing.  I think the reason I'm drawn to them is because there are interesting shapes in the petals and buds, not to mention some interesting textures going on.  I want to branch out a bit more and draw some things that have neat textures.  I might see if I can find an online silverpoint challenge that has a list of fun things to draw with silverpoint.  I think that will be my New Year's goal: find a fun list of items to draw with silverpoint.  If When I find one, I will share it here with you on the blog.

I hope you aren't bored with the orchids.  I promise I will branch-out a little more soon!

Until next time...

Blessings!

Orchid #1

I love orchids.  However, I haven't been very successful growing them, unfortunately.  While I was drawing this beauty, I was thinking about how delicate orchids look, and how there are so many interesting varieties of them.

I must confess that I have a dream that involves orchids.  I would love to have a greenhouse one day and grow orchids and other beautiful flowers.  I would have row upon row of Guy Wolff pots waiting on a sturdy wooden potting bench.  While I'm dreaming, I would love a dry sink and a pretty cafe set to enjoy coffee or tea amongst the plants. As the orchids begin to bud, I'd bring them in our home to enjoy.

Just when I think I've found my favorite orchid, I see another variety and love that one, too.  I admit I tend to be drawn to the white ones, but I've seen some bright yellow ones with red stamen that I also love.

Do you cultivate orchids in your home?  How high is the learning curve?  We're never too old to learn, are we...

Until next time...

Blessings!
